The short version

Seam is a camera and a comparison tool. It has no account, no server, and no way to send us anything. Your photographs are stored on your iPhone. If you leave iCloud mirroring on, they are also copied to your own private iCloud database, which is your Apple account and not ours.

We operate no server. We embed no third-party code, no analytics, and no tracking. We receive no data about you or your photographs — not your usage, not your errors, not your existence. There is nothing for us to sell, share, or lose.

1. Who this is about

Seam is published by Agilenge AB (Sweden), referred to below as “we”. This policy covers the Seam iOS app. It does not cover the AI providers you may choose to send photographs to; those relationships are directly between you and them, under your own account, and their own privacy policies govern what happens on their side.

2. What Seam stores, and where

  • Photographs — on your iPhone, inside the app’s own storage. They leave the device only to your private iCloud database if mirroring is on, and to your chosen AI provider if you tap Compare.
  • Trap names and dates — on your iPhone. They leave the device only to your private iCloud database if mirroring is on.
  • Trap locations — your iPhone only. Never leave the device. There is no field for them in iCloud and there never will be.
  • Comparison results — your iPhone only. Never leave the device.
  • API keys — your iPhone’s Keychain, this device only. Sent only to the provider each key belongs to.
  • Depth measurements — your iPhone only, and only if you switch the research setting on. Never leave the device; no code path can send them anywhere.

3. The camera

Seam needs camera access to take the photographs — that is the entire product. Photographs are written straight into the app’s own storage on your device. They are never added to your photo library, and Seam never reads your photo library.

Seam does not attach your location to any photograph it takes.

4. Location

Seam asks for location access only for two features, and each is optional and does nothing until you act:

  • Suggesting a name. When you tap “Use My Location” while creating a trap, your position is read once and turned into a street address by Apple’s geocoder, so the trap can be named after the place. The coordinate itself is discarded immediately; only the text you see is kept, and only if you keep it.
  • Return reminders. If you turn these on, the coordinate of a trap is stored on your device so iOS can remind you when you come back to that place. The reminder is a standard iOS location notification: iOS watches, not Seam, and not us. The coordinate stays on your device — it is not mirrored to iCloud and it is never uploaded.

5. iCloud

Mirroring to iCloud is on by default and can be switched off at any time in Settings. When it is on, your traps and photographs are copied to the private database of your iCloud account, under Apple’s standard data protection. We have no access to it — no keys, no console, no visibility. You can delete those copies from within Seam at any time, and your device keeps everything.

Trap locations, comparison results, and depth measurements are never mirrored.

6. Device backups

While iCloud mirroring is on, Seam’s photographs are kept out of your device’s backup — iCloud already holds a copy, and a second one buys you nothing. Switch mirroring off and they are included in the backup instead: with no mirror, the backup becomes the only copy, and a restored phone that brought back the app without its photographs would be worse than useless. Depth measurements, if you switched that setting on, are stored beside the photographs and follow the same rule.

7. The optional AI comparison

Seam’s instruments — the wipe, the blink, the difference map — all run on your device and need no account, no key, and no network. The AI comparison is an extra, and it is the only feature that sends a photograph anywhere other than your own iCloud.

If you set up a key and tap Compare, and after you have confirmed a dialog naming the recipient:

  • The two photographs being compared are re-encoded from their pixels alone, which removes all metadata, including any GPS data, before anything is sent.
  • They are sent over HTTPS directly from your phone to the single provider you selected — OpenAI, Anthropic, or Moonshot — authenticated with your own API key. Nothing passes through us.
  • Alongside them goes the instruction text and a short technical note: when each photograph was taken, the camera’s ISO and shutter readings, and a number describing how well the two frames lined up. The trap’s name is not sent. No location is sent.
  • The provider’s reply is stored only on your device.

You are the provider’s customer, not us. What they do with the images they receive is governed by your agreement with them, and you should read their policy. If you never add a key, no photograph ever reaches any provider.

8. API keys

Keys are stored in your device’s Keychain, marked as available only after first unlock and only on that device — which means they are not synced to iCloud Keychain and not included in backups. Each key is sent only to the provider it belongs to. A new phone will need the key pasted in again; that is deliberate.

9. Depth data (research setting)

On iPhones with a LiDAR camera, Settings offers a research setting that also records a depth measurement each time you take a photograph. It is off unless you turn it on. It changes nothing about how your photographs are compared, appears in no report, is never mirrored to iCloud, and cannot be sent anywhere — no code in the app is capable of transmitting it. It is written beside the photographs and shares their fate: the same backup rule described above, and deletion with the trap. You can also delete all of it at once from Settings.

10. What we collect

Nothing. In the language of Apple’s privacy questionnaire, Seam is Data Not Collected. To be concrete about what that means:

  • We run no server that Seam talks to. There is no “Seam account”.
  • Seam contains no analytics, no crash reporting of our own, no advertising, no attribution, and no third-party SDKs of any kind.
  • We do not track you across apps or websites, and Seam contains no tracking domains.
  • If you choose to send us feedback through Apple’s TestFlight or the App Store, we see what you write there and whatever Apple includes with it. That is your choice, and it is the only route by which anything reaches us.

11. Children

Seam is not directed at children and collects nothing from anyone, including children.

12. Your control

  • Delete a trap in the app and its photographs are removed from your device and from your iCloud database.
  • Switch off iCloud mirroring and Seam stops uploading and downloading entirely; a button in Settings deletes the copies already there while your device keeps everything.
  • Remove an API key in Settings and no photograph can be sent to that provider again.
  • Delete the app and everything Seam stored on the device goes with it. Copies in your own iCloud database are removed through Settings before deleting the app, or through your Apple account’s iCloud storage management afterwards.
  • Camera and location permissions can be withdrawn at any time in iOS Settings.

Because we hold no data about you, requests to access, correct, export, or erase data held by us have nothing to act on — there is no file with your name on it. For data held by an AI provider you used, contact that provider directly; you are their customer of record.

13. Legal basis (GDPR)

Agilenge AB does not process personal data through Seam. The processing that happens is performed on your own device or, at your instruction, between you and a third party you chose. Where any processing is initiated by you — sending photographs to an AI provider, reading your location to suggest a name — it happens on your explicit action, and can be stopped by not taking that action.

14. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and material changes will be described in the app’s release notes rather than quietly swapped in.
